So, in the year 2002 I had just finished my M.S. in Physics and was travelling around a bit in Europe while working part-time at a distance as a consultant. I spent some time in Bologna studying Italian and after that a couple of months in Munich studying German. The company I worked for was a small pharmaceutical company called Envivo. They were founded among some other people by my M.S. thesis supervisers at the European Molecular Biology Lab (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany which was how I got in touch with them to start with. For a short while during the end of the year I was also over in San Francisco, where they were then located.

Ikuko, Daniele and me in Bologna making big hairy fools out of ourselves (not exactly the only time it happened either).

Half of my face chewing on a Krapfen and some people I studied with in Munich. No, we hadn't been to the HofbrÀuhaus before dinner (this time).

Almost dying after having biked across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco with Chris, my boss at the time. Fortunately, I am in much better shape now... :-P
