Odd things

Strange things have been happening here lately. Yesterday during lunch I was almost run over by a large noisy demonstration. In the evening me, Mini and David went to a bar in Palermo to celebrate my and Mini's birthdays (mine is tomorrow, just as a note to those of you who want to send me expensive gifts) and after numerous shots and beers I finally got home at 4 in the morning. Well, I guess that part in itself wasn't very strange, but the fact that I actually made it up at 8 this morning to go pick up my laundry in the laundromat across the street (it's sooooo nice not having to do your laundry yourself) was indeed strange. As was the fact that I survived classes.

Later in the day we went to a bar... again! And right after another one of my classmates, Katie, had just told me how she loves that you're allowed to smoke inside here, this dude shows up behind us, starts rigging a huge camera and asks her if she could light up a cigarette and hold it over the ashtray. He then shoots a little mini-film for a few seconds and the drama is over. What it was for...? An anti-smoking ad of course! :-D

Firecrackers, horns and homemade bombs are all commonplace in demonstrations here, as are the flyers used to cover the streets with. A qualified guess is that Judiciales is the union of workers in the judiciary system, so maybe they were fighting for... justice? Ok, that wasn't even remotely funny... :-)

"Guess who's gonna drink this entire jarra (pitcher) and get REEEEEALLY drunk tonight??"

"And... cut!! That's a wrap, folks! Excellent wiggling of the cigarette there, Katie!"
