Me and Lotta went on a little tour in Cairo exploring previously unchartered territory. Maybe it is not really true to say that all of it were backstreets, since we also passed a few a the real tourist hotspots, but whatever.
View from one mosque to another. They're not really that far apart here in Cairo. :-)
A big minaret, it's from these that the guys shout out their prayers four or five days a day at very fixed time. When they are not used for that they are used to lure tourists in there and skim them on money. (Not that this happened to us, of course!!)
This is my normally very nice neighbour Lotta, who took care of me the first days here before I got my own apartment. This day she was quite irritating though, so I decided to lock her in the minaret. I think the good people of Cairo heard some not so usual prayers from the minaret later that day. ;-)
Cairo is definitely a nicer city by night than it is by day, this is just the road down by the center, Miidaan Tahrir to be exact and when the streets and sidewalks are not crammed with cars and you can not see all the dirt it actually looks very nice.
A quite different landscape from the glittery night scenes sometimes appear in daylight...
